My name is Susanne. I am seventeen years old and I have five siblings. Their ages are six, ten, twelve, fifteen and eighteen. This is my letter to my dad whose birthday it is today.

Today is the 28th of April. Today you would’ve been 53 years old. It has been three months and four days since you passed away and I miss you so much. I still can’t believe that you are gone, that I will never see you again. There are so many things that got left unsaid between us. I can’t believe that we have to go on without you daddy. I can’t believe that I will never wake up to your voice anymore or wait for the door to open knowing it is you coming back from work. I can’t believe that you will never teach me how to drive, see me graduate from school, help me move out, walk me down the aisle when I get married and that you will never hold your grandchildren in your arms and tell them stories about my childhood. I miss our heated discussions around the dinner table and the sparkle in your eyes every time we made you proud. I miss everything about you, we all do. It hurts me to look in the eyes of the others and know that we will never get our daddy back.

I hope you are proud of us and that you know that you were the best father any child could ever have. You made me believe that I can do a difference and that is something I will do, I will do it for you. Daddy, I love you and I hope that you are safe wherever you are.
